MUSC UHE is a vital facility within the state’s largest and most advanced academic medical center. As part of MUSC’s ongoing commitment to reliable, efficient, and resilient infrastructure, the UHE Cooling Tower Replacement project addressed aging mechanical systems and ensured continued operation in a 24/7 clinical environment.
Updating Critical Infrastructure
The scope included removing an existing cooling tower, installing new structural steel members, replacing the roof, and installing a new cooling tower with upgraded piping, electrical gear, and controls.
As the project manager, our team brings local presence and expertise to conduct routine site visits and support the coordination between subcontractors, designers, and engineers.
Having collaborated with MUSC on previous projects, we have a deep knowledge of their processes. Combined with our construction management experience, we’re well-positioned to ensure the facility’s infrastructure is updated.
Coordination is Key
Any project at an active medical facility includes a host of challenges. We’ve coordinated with MUSC on road closures for crane operation so care isn’t disrupted. The crane use itself presents a unique situation, as the work will take place up eight stories, and many of the picks will be blind, requiring strict safety and communication.
By installing a new cooling tower, MUSC will have a more efficient HVAC system, helping support the facility during Charleston’s warm summer months.
